A person who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children aged nine and 10.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in July.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more.

She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
