19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
